Robbie E. Howard Eighth Grade Center serves 800 students and is part of the 2006 WISD Bond Program put before voters to serve the needs of this rapidly growing community. This facility features a solid masonry exterior envelope with sloped metal roofs as well as durable and resilient masonry interior corridors. Site amenities include multiple drop-off locations to facilitate the various drop-off times, adjacency to the city of Waxahachie’s sports complex to facilitate the sharing of sports fields and parking, an outdoor covered eating area adjacent to the cafeteria and a large courtyard where students can gather.

Upon entering the facility, visitors arrive at a grand, two-volume, double staircase surrounded by glass overlooking the rear courtyard. The main corridors, which are full-height masonry walls, span from this atrium, providing a durable, high-traffic area that will not be easily damaged or in need of continual repainting. The facility houses a competition gymnasium with seating for 800, a second volleyball practice gym, band hall and choir hall, cafetorium, second floor library and student commons.

The facility also features geo-thermal mechanical systems and high performance windows to afford the District high energy efficiency. Technology such as digital cameras, access control,  local sound in the gymnasium and cafetorium, wireless networking, computers in each classroom and multiple computer labs provide students and teachers with the latest technological necessities.

Brownwood ISD has experienced significant gains academically due to the revitalized sense of pride with our newly renovated facilities.
