KLEIN ISD
Hofius Intermediate School
Hofius Intermediate School is dynamic and multi-functional. Klein ISD wanted to create “choice” in each space, allowing students in academic and common areas to select the size of the space they wanted to work in, the type of furniture they wanted to use, what technology they needed and how much visual and acoustical privacy a project required. Drop-down zones can be found in “pockets” throughout the building, giving students plenty of space to spread out.
The school is divided into learning communities for 6th grade, STEM and humanities. Each community is functionally independent, offering a 2-story “pod” with classrooms, labs, administrative offices and collaboration space. Classroom pods connect visually and physically to an open learning commons (connecting also to athletics, assembly space and the cafeteria). The commons incorporates library concepts with technology, small group learning zones and a makerspace.
